When grinding hard materials, the abrasive particles are more likely to be blunt, in order to make the blunt abrasive particles fall off in time, the cutting piece with less hardness should be selected; otherwise, the softer material should be ground. When the abrasive grains are not easily blunt, in order to maximize the service life of the cutting piece, a cutting piece having a relatively high hardness should be selected.

But this is not absolute. If the grinding workpiece is not only soft, but also has high toughness, such as non-ferrous metals such as copper and aluminum, such materials are liable to cause clogging of the cutting piece. To avoid this, you should choose a cutting piece with a lower hardness.

Further, the rotational speed of the cutting piece and the contact area with the workpiece are also factors to be considered, the cutting wire speed is low, and when the contact area with the workpiece is small, it is suitable to select a cutting piece having a relatively high hardness; The speed is high, and when the contact area with the workpiece is large, it is suitable to select a cutting piece having a small hardness.

For those workpieces with poor thermal conductivity, easy deformation and easy burn, the large heat generated during grinding, especially dry grinding, is not good for the workpiece.
